The PBIS committee has established standards for the LTMS student’s dress that emphasize modesty, cleanliness and good grooming as defined below and by school officials as the need arises. We want to encourage each student to gain recognition through personal poise and conscientious work, not through inappropriate dress. One’s personal appearance is a manifestation of self-evaluation, and we hope that students will think highly enough of themselves to dress for success.
Guidelines:
- Students should come to school with clothing that covers their body from their shoulders to their knees. Any clothing that is too revealing (for example, too tight, exposed midriff, low neckline, off the shoulder, bare backs, see through garments such as tops that are lace or crochet) is prohibited.
- When wearing shorts or a skirt, the length should fall below your fingertips while standing straight (flamingo test). When students wear yoga pants or something similar to school, students must wear a garment that adheres to the fingertip rule for shorts or skirt.
- Your attire should not be disruptive to the school environment and if deemed disruptive, you may be asked to change.
Acceptable attire includes:
- Pants, jeans, or shorts which fit and are worn at the waist.
- Jogging suits
Unacceptable attire includes:
- Clothing with obscenities, vulgarities, profane language, double meanings, drug, alcohol or cigarette advertisements or clothing that is disruptive to the school environment.
- Clothing that displays messages of bias on the grounds of ethnicity, race, color, national origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Visible undergarments
- Holes or frayed areas in clothing above the knee
- Chains not typically worn as jewelry (for example, bicycle chains or dog collars)
- Hats, bonnets, (Any Head Covering) costume or sunglasses are not to be worn inside the school building (Religious head coverings are permitted)
- Hoodies
- Make-up, hair color and/or styles that are distracting
- Combs, pics, or rakes worn in the hair
- Hate symbols as defined by school officials
- Pajamas and/or slippers
- Students are to store and secure coats and backpacks in their lockers during the school day and not take them to classes.
- Purses and fanny pack shall be stored in locker
Note: For personal appearance issues not addressed above, the principal reserves the final decision.

All students are expected to adhere to the Fayette County Public School student dress guidelines. Students violating the dress code will be addressed by:
First Offense - The student will be sent to the front office upon completion of the dress code check during the first hour to inform parents about the dress code violation. The student will then change into appropriate clothing from the YSC or items brought in by parents. In some cases, the student may wait in the SAFE room until clothes are delivered by parents. If a student is able to comply with the dress code correction, he/she will return to class. In some cases, a student will be permitted to return to class with a note of administrative approval. A parent contact will be documented in PLP.
Second Offense – The student will be sent to the front office upon completion of the dress code check during the first hour to inform parents about the dress code violation. The student will then change into appropriate clothing from the YSC or items brought in by parents. In some cases, the student may wait in the SAFE room until clothes are delivered by parents. If a student is able to comply with the dress code correction, he/she will return to class. In some cases, a student will be permitted to return to class with a note of administrative approval. A parent contact will be documented in PLP.
Third Offense – The student will be sent to the front office upon completion of the dress code check during the first hour to inform parents about the dress code violation. The student will then change into appropriate clothing from the YSC or items brought in by parents. In some cases, the student may wait in the SAFE room until clothes are delivered by parents. If a student is able to comply with the dress code correction, he/she will return to class. The student will be assigned a silent lunch. If the student is unable to correct the violation, he/she will remain in the SAFE room. A parent contact will be documented in PLP.
Fourth Offense -The student will be sent to the front office upon completion of the dress code check during the first hour to inform parents about the dress code violation. The student will then change into appropriate clothing from the YSC or items brought in by parents. In some cases, the student may wait in the SAFE room until clothes are delivered by parents. If a student is able to comply with the dress code correction, he/she will return to class. The student will be assigned multiple silent lunches. If the student is unable to correct the violation, he/she will remain in the SAFE room. A parent contact will be documented in PLP.
