Individual Learning Plan (ILP)

What is it?

The ILP is a career based plan that students begin formulating during their 6th grade years.  Students take career interest surveys, research jobs, salaries, etc. to begin making decisions about their future career choice.  The ILP follows students from 6th-12th grade and is reviewed and revised yearly.  Eighth grade students are able to link to their respective high schools and begin looking at courses they can take to meet the requirements for a possible career.  Students may enter awards, honors, test scores, clubs, hobbies, create resumes, and a variety of other things to aid in applying for college and gaining employment.  Each student is assigned an advisor to review their plan and discuss it with them each year.

How do students use it?

The ILP site can be reached from an computer with Internet access.  Students are given a username and password to gain access to their particular pages.  Students can begin working on it during their technology classes, but will have to do some work from home.

Why are students asked to complete this plan?

Completion of these plans will count toward the school's non-academic data for state accountability.  Students will also be able to explore career choices before they actually have to declare a major in college or select a career.

When is it due?

All plans should be completed before the first week in May.

What are the standards for completion?

Sixth grade students will complete 20% of the plan.

Seventh grade students will complete 60% of the plan.

Eighth grade students must complete 100% of the plan.

Can families access/see their student's plan?

Yes, parents/guardians can get a username and password to access their student's plan from any computer with internet access. They can also send comments to students or staff about the plan and vice versa.
