Lexington Traditional Magnet School (LTMS) has whittled the list to five possible new names for the middle school:
The school used student research and family surveys to gather suggestions. The next step is a selection by the School-Based Decision Making Council, which will then present a recommendation to the Fayette County Board of Education for its consideration in April. Meanwhile, the community has one more opportunity to express their preference, by March 26:
Principal Bryne Jacobs says the goal is a new identity that better reflects the school’s history and significance in the community and that fosters pride in its arts-centered programming. Situated at Fourth Street and North Limestone, LTMS opened as Lexington Senior High School – the first high school in Fayette County – in the early 1900s. The middle school (grades 6-8) now offers a range of visual and performing arts pathways.
